The purpose of SGBED is twofold:
  • Champion the economic interests of South Georgia through intense and effective lobbying of the Legislature and other government agencies, both state and federal.


  • Serve as a watchdog against proposed legislation that is counter to the interest and well-being of South Georgia.


    • SGBED is a non-partisan; not-for-profit special interest group focusing on specific issues that transcend local jurisdictional boundaries.
    SGBED provides a forum in which members can communicate concerns and ideas to each other for the purpose of formulating common strategies to advance South Georgia's regional interests.

    FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE

    Wielding powerful influence, and supported by unlimited financial resources, Metro Atlanta is seeking to fortify its infrastructure at South Georgia’s expense.

    SGBED is South Georgia’s first line of defense. SGBED works to assure that South Georgia is not slighted at the state and federal levels. As decisions are made concerning Transportation, Natural Resources, and Budget, SGBED’s voice is South Georgia’s voice.

    There are no other organizations that represent South Georgia as a region with its unique economic, environmental, and quality of life issues. SGBED is the only voice for South Georgia at the State Capitol. SGBED speaks as a collective voice for 25% of the state’s population and nearly half of its land mass.
